Description
This release commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Royal Australian Mint, opened on 22 February 1965 by His Royal Highness Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh. As the first wholly Australian‑operated mint, its establishment marked a new era in national coin production, ushering in the decimal currency system and shaping Australia’s numismatic identity.
Since its founding, the Mint has produced over 14 billion circulating coins. To mark this milestone, the 2015 mint set includes a unique 50c coin design exclusive to this release.
The reverse of the 50c features a honeycomb motif symbolising the industrious ‘worker bees’ who produce Australia’s coins — a tribute to the precision and craftsmanship behind every piece struck at the Mint.
Features:
- Uncirculated condition; Cupro‑Nickel (5c–50c) and Aluminium Bronze ($1, $2).
- Exclusive 50c reverse: 50th Anniversary honeycomb design.
- Designers: Aleksandra Stokic (50c); Stuart Devlin (5c, 10c, 20c, $1); Horst Hahne ($2).
- Mintage: 48,682.
- Presented in official Royal Australian Mint folder.
