1954 Australian Florin issued to commemorate the first visit to Australia by Queen Elizabeth II. Struck at the Melbourne Mint, this circulating commemorative features Leslie Bowles’ elegant reverse design of a crowned lion standing atop a Tudor-style crown, symbolising the monarchy’s connection to Australia. The obverse carries the young laureate portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Mary Gillick.
